To make these pretty pink champagne Jello shots, you will need:
- Watermelon Jello – I like to make pink champagne Jello shots so a watermelon flavored Jello is my typical pick. You can choose any color or flavor you prefer or match the colors to the theme of your event!
- Boiling water – Super hot, boiling or nearly so water helps the Jello powder to dissolve.
- Cold water – Cold water reduces the temperature of the Jello mixture and allows it to eventually set up firm.
- Champagne or sparkling wine – Choose a favorite champagne or sparkling wine that you love keeping in mind that a sweeter varietal will lend itself to a sweeter Jello shot, while a dry option will be less sweet.
When to Make Champagne Jello Shots
My other half and I love watching our friends’ faces light up when they see those little plastic cups, because everyone loves Jello shots! Making them with champagne is a total bonus.
We like making ours this way because we can taste the champagne and the watermelon flavor makes a beautiful pink color that brightens up any table. Since there are quite a few different colors of jello to choose from, you can find options to fit your party theme.
How to Make Champagne Jello Shots
Follow the easy steps to learn how to make Jello shots:
Step 1. Shake Jello packet into a medium sized mixing bowl. You’ll want to use a heat-safe bowl. If you have one with a pouring spout that’s even better!
Step 2. Being careful not to burn yourself, carefully add boiling water.
Step 3. Whisk vigorously for two to three minutes until the Jello mix is completely dissolved and no longer grainy.
Step 4. Pour in the champagne and whisk vigorously until well combined.
Step 5. Add icy cold water and whisk again until the mixture cools significantly.
Step 6. Pour into shot glasses or other small glasses.
Step 7. Refrigerate until firm.
How Long Does it Take for Jello Shots to Set in the Fridge?
How long it takes your champagne Jello shots to set will depend mostly on how large you make them. Generally I’d plan for 3 to 4 hours, or even overnight.
If you make smaller shots around 1oz size or so, you may find that they set quicker. Jello shots of this size will typically set in about an hour.

Variations on Homemade Champagne Jello Shots
There are so many ways to personalize the flavors of your champagne Jello shots! In general, the formula for making Jello shots includes 1-1/2 cups water or other non-alcoholic liquid + 1-1/2 cups alcohol + 3 oz Jello mix.
- Use your favorite juice or soda in place of some of the water. Apple cider would also be delicious!
- Make mimosa champagne jello shots by using orange Jello mix and subbing pulp-free orange juice for the cold water.
- Swap out the champagne for your favorite rosé.
- Sub out water for ginger beer and lime juice to make Moscow mule Jello shots.
- Top with edible confetti or sanding sugar for a glam look for New Year’s Eve Jello shots.
Champagne Jello Shots Recipe
- 1 3 Ounce Box of Jello Watermelon flavor for this pretty pink color
- 1 Boiling Water
- 0.5 Cold Water
- 1.5 Champagne Chilled
- In a medium sized heat safe mixing bowl, preferably with a pouring spout, and combine one cup of boiling water and contents of Jello packet.
- Whisk together for 2-3 minutes or until the powder is completely dissolved.
- Pour in champagne, adding to the Jello mixture.
- Then add cold water, whisking to combine.
- Pour into shot glasses.
- Let the shot glasses chill in the refrigerator for 3-4 hours or until completely set or overnight.
