Chocolate Avocado Mini Donuts Recipe

Just because it’s the new year doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy donuts, right? I mean, I know this is the time of year we usually eat healthier and try to better ourselves, but I say that a life without donuts is not one I want to be living.

After all, if you deny yourself treats, you’ll just end up wanting them more, which means eating more, and then we have a problem.

You can skip all that drama and just make these chocolate avocado mini donuts. They’re baked so they’re already healthier than what you’d get at the donut drive-through, and use avocado in place of both egg and butter.

If you like you can even go full vegan on these and use unsweetened non-dairy milk and vegan chocolate chips. Bam. Donuts you don’t have to feel bad about.

The first couple of times I made these donuts they just weren’t chocolatey enough through using only cocoa powder, so I added a few ounces of melted chocolate, and that really takes them up in rich flavor. The melted chocolate also helps mask the taste of the avocado, making these a hit with the smaller set as well as grown-ups.

I know some people don’t consider baked donuts as real donuts, and well, they’re missing out. Baked donuts aren’t devoid of flavor — just check out these baked Samoa donuts if you doubt me.

Plus baked donuts in the smaller mini size are just perfect for snacking on any time of day, especially with coffee or a cold glass of milk.

When you mash your avocado for this recipe, you want to get it as smooth as possible so the avocado melts perfectly into the batter. If you like, a food processor or blender will help do the trick.

Try to choose an avocado that is perfectly ripe for this recipe – some brown spots are fine, but you don’t want it to be completely mushy or rock-hard! Just select an avocado that has slight give when you grab it, and for the love of Pete, don’t remove the nib at the top! That just ruins the avocado for anyone who might want it later.

I toss about half the batch in powdered sugar once they are cooled. Because the recipe isn’t too sweet to begin with, the powdered sugar just adds a nice layer of sweet without being overwhelming.

Try your favorite topping on these!
