Skillet Brownies Recipe

Nothing beats a warm, fudgy brownie with chewy edges. Making your brownies in the skillet is my secret for getting the chewiest edges ever.

I also love that when you make a large brownie in a skillet, you don’t need to dirty any bowls whatsoever.

Regardless of the size you use, they’re perfect to eat right off the skillet.

How to Make Your Brownies in a Skillet

The method you use really depends on the size of your skillet.

  • 10-inch skillet: Use your skillet to prepare your batter. Melt your butter and chocolate, then add the ingredients using the same method you normally would if you were making it in a bowl. This cuts back on the number of dishes you need to waste and is so convenient.

  • Mini skillets: Prepare your batter the way you normally would. If you’ve ever used any of my brownie recipes, you know we usually use a double boiler at first to melt the chocolate and the butter together. Technically, you can also just use a saucepan on low.

The amount of time it takes for your brownies to finish in the oven is shorter when you are using a cast iron skillet, regardless of the size.

This is because the iron retains the heat so well, it will continue to cook the brownies for a while after you remove it from the oven.

To retain that fudgy center, we don’t want to overbake the brownies.

Can You Make Brownies on the Grill?

By using a skillet, you are able to bake your brownies in more places than just the oven.

I love using my cast iron skillets to bake things on the grill, especially during the summer!

Cover the top of your skillet well with aluminum foil and cover the grill. Start checking the brownies for doneness after about 15 – 20 minutes.

How to Eat This Brownie?

Top it with some ice cream, maybe some cherries and chocolate sauce, then dig in with a spoon!

There is no cutting up the brownie and getting a slice. All you need is a spoon, maybe a good movie, and a friend.

  • 0.5 Unsalted Butter
  • 7 Semisweet Chocolate
  • 0.75 Granulated Sugar
  • 3 Egg room temperature
  • 1 Pure Vanilla Extract
  • 0.5 Dutch Processed Cocoa
  • 0.5 All-Purpose Flour
  • 0.5 Salt


  • Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  • Melt the butter and chocolate together in the skillet on the stove at low heat. Remove from heat.
  •  Stir until they are well-combined.
  • Add in the sugar and mix well.
  • Beat in the eggs and vanilla until well-combined.
  • Fold in the cocoa powder, flour, and salt. Stir until just combined.
  • Bake for 28 – 30 minutes.
  • Remove from heat and allow to cool for a few minutes before digging in!
