I will be the first to admit that I always make main entrée dishes in the slow cooker. Very rarely do I ever make a side dish (minus my baked potatoes in the slow cooker), and I’ve never made a dessert in the slow cooker. But I’ve tried challenging myself lately and really crossing boundaries in the kitchen.

I live in Florida, and I’m lucky to have at my disposal berries year round. During the few months of the year I don’t have that luxury, I utilize the fresh berries from the past season that I froze.

I always make sure to stock up and freeze at least a few gallons of berries while they are inexpensive and in season; for day’s when I’m craving a fresh berry smoothie or even a cobbler like this one. There’s nothing like knowing you have a freezer full of berries in the dead of winter to see you through. Believe it or not, we do get freezing temperatures down here in Florida.

I’ve made this berry cobbler in the slow cooker with both fresh and frozen berries. Each method I’ve tried has yielded the same perfect berry cobbler, so choose whatever berries you have on hand. For this particular incarnation I used strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries, but you can use whatever berries you like. Blackberries would be amazing.

The dough to the cobbler has just the right amount of sweetness. It’s not overpowering and works perfect with the berries. I love to serve a warm cobbler with a scoop of French vanilla ice cream.

  • 2.5 All-Purpose Flour divided
  • 1.25 Granulated Sugar divided
  • 2 Baking Powder
  • 0.5 Ground Cinnamon
  • 2 Egg
  • 0.5 Whole Milk
  • 4 Canola Oil
  • 0.125 Salt
  • 4 Frozen Mixed Berries (Great Value) or fresh (strawberries, raspberries & blueberries)


  • In a large bowl, combine 2 cups flour, 1/4 cup sugar, baking powder and cinnamon. Then add the eggs, milk and oil and stir until moistened (batter will be very thick). Coat the slow cooker with cooking spray then spread the batter evenly into slow cooker (I used a 6 quart).
  • In a separate large bowl, combine the salt, remaining flour and sugar. Add the berries in the bowl and toss to coat. Pour on top of the batter in the slow cooker.
  • Place the lid on the slow cooker and cook on high for 2 hours (or until a toothpick inserted into cobbler comes out clean). Serve immediately with French vanilla ice cream if desired.
